Home Improvement

We’ve all been spending more time at home than usual, and that could mean that your house is smelling a bit stuffy.

Wouldn’t it be nice to give your home a little refresh? If you’re looking for some easy ways to make your home smell a bit sweeter, these tips can help.

1. Baking Soda

It’s inexpensive, and as a natural deodorizer it can freshen up more than refrigerators.

Your carpets and mattresses are magnets for dust, dirt and more. To keep them fresh, try sprinkling baking soda on them. Let it sit for a while, then vacuum it up.

You can also pour some in your kitchen trash to help keep odors to a minimum.

2. Citrus Fruits

Have a lemon or orange handy? They’re powerful forces in the war on stink.

Try simmering citrus slices and spices (such as oranges and cloves) in a saucepan of water. It produces a wonderful aroma that drifts throughout your home.

3. Dryer Sheets

Grab a dryer sheet from your laundry room and stash it in your gym or sports bag to keep it smelling clean.

Dryer sheets also do double-duty when you use them as baseboard cleaners: They leave behind their fragrance while picking up dust.

4. Scented Candles

A few candles in your favorite scents scattered throughout your home is an easy way to improve the atmosphere. Just remember to extinguish any lit candles before you leave.

5. Essential Oils

Put some essential oils into your diffuser. Or dab lavender essential oil on some cotton balls and let them freshen up closets and drawers. Just be sure to place them out of reach of young children and pets.

6. Other Odor Absorbers

Fresh flowers, freshly baked goods or even an open window can help keep your home smelling great. But one of the best ways to help keep your house odor-free is regular HVAC maintenance and replacing your air filters.
